How to Prepare for Your Notary Appointment: A Checklist

By Sara The Notary · February 24, 2026

A smooth notary appointment depends on three things: the right people, the right paperwork, and the right ID. Here is the checklist I send clients before every mobile appointment.

Before the appointment

  • Every signer must be present in person (or logged in for a RON session).
  • Every signer must have current, unexpired, government-issued photo ID.
  • Names on IDs match names printed on the document.
  • All blanks in the document are filled in (or struck through).
  • Required witnesses are present and not named in the document.
  • You know which notarial act is needed (acknowledgment, jurat, etc.) or the document tells us.
  • You have a quiet, well-lit space to sit and review the paperwork.

What I bring

My commission, seal, journal, blue and black ink pens, and the proper Florida notarial certificates if your document is missing one.

What we will not do

I will not give legal advice, draft the document for you, or change wording. If you need any of those, please call an attorney first and then call me to handle the notarization.
